Annual “Scouting-for-Food” drive collects over 9,000 items

Scout troops across Douglas County collected food donations on Saturday to feed the hungry for the 28th annual “Scouting-for-Food” Food Drive.

Lawrence scouts collected over 4,300 items of donated food, John Scott, 2015 Scouting-for-Food coordinator, said in a release. The donations were given to several Lawrence food pantries: Salvation Army, Ballard Center, Catholic Charities, Heartland Healthcare, ECKAN, Penn House and Trinity Interfaith Caring.

Community-wide food drives also took place in Eudora and Baldwin City. The Eudora drive collected 3,655 items of food and the Baldwin City drive, 1,320. Donations went to the Eudora Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry and Baldwin United Methodist Church Food Pantry.
