Kansas University freshman third baseman Matt McLaughlin was named Big 12 co-newcomer of the week by the Big 12 Conference on Monday.

In four games April 1-4 against Wichita State and Oklahoma, McLaughlin was 7-for-18 with three doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored.

In conference games this season, the rookie is second in the league at a .435 clip and ranks first in on-base percentage (.552), including 10 hits and six walks in 23 at bats.
