Today in Lawrence: Research lecture; banned book trading cards; war aviation
Not dry yet
Umbrella chances continue: There will be scattered thunderstorms in the morning, then partly cloudy late. The high will be 78 degrees. Chance of rain: 40 percent. Low tonight? Down to 60 degrees, and the skies should clear up with only a 10 percent chance of rain.
Practice for perfection
KU Libraries Lecture Series: Thinking through: Practice-led research, interdisciplinarity and road building, 3:30 p.m., Watson Library, 1425 Jayhawk Blvd. The speakers will discuss the history of practice-led research, the role of hybrid practices in collaborative research and their work with the Spencer Museum of Art’s ARC (Arts-Research-Collaboration) initiative. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Banned Book Club
Join the Lawrence Public Library to unveil the winners of the third annual Banned Book Trading Cards! Each year, the library calls artists to submit their original artwork for any banned or challenged book. Seven winners are selected, and their artwork is made into trading cards. Attend the Banned Book Trading Cards Reveal Party, 7 p.m. in the auditorium, Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St.
Reality of flight
Popular images of chivalrous World War I aviators, goggled with silk scarves flowing, were quite different from the dark reality of the skies above Europe. Get a different perspective on wartime aviation at “The Realities of Great War Aviation.” The lecture is at 7 p.m. at the Watkins Museum of History, 1047 Massachusetts St.
