Student disciplined for bringing toy gun to school; no incident involved

Liberty Memorial Central Middle School filed a police report Wednesday after a student was found with a plastic toy gun in school.

No incident involving the toy gun occurred, according to Julie Boyle, a spokesperson for the Lawrence school district. The student was seen playing with the gun at a bus stop and a staff member was later informed of it.

The school notified parents and police and took disciplinary action in accordance with school board policy, Boyle said. She could not specify what kind of punishment was handed down, citing privacy.

Lawrence school board policy allows for suspension or expulsion of a student if he or she brings a “facsimile of a weapon” on school property.
