Kansas soccer still undefeated

Jamie Fletcher blasted a shot in from the top of the box late in the second half, sparking Kansas University to a 2-0 college soccer victory over Cal State Northridge on Friday at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.

Kansas improved to 7-0, the best start in program history and tying the program’s longest winning streak.

“Today was a tough game, and I knew we were going to get that from (CSUN) after watching them on video,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “I was happy with the performance, though. It was definitely a fight, and I was glad we managed to pull it out in the end.”

CSUN fell to 2-3-1.

It was the first goal of the season for Fletcher, who missed Kansas’ previous six games due to a pair of injuries.

Ali Kimura added an insurance goal with less than 90 seconds remaining.

Kaitlyn Stroud earned the shutout in goal, the eighth of her career.

Kansas will host UMKC at 1 p.m. Sunday.
