The Lied Center has named jazz musician Wynton Marsalis and elementary music teacher Lois Orth-Lopes as the 2014-15 Lied Center IMPACT Award winners.

The award honors one artist and one educator every season for their distinguished service to the performing arts.

Marsalis, who is also the managing director and artistic director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, won the Pulitzer Prize for music in 1997. He performed at the Lied Center in September.

Orth-Lopes, who works at Lawrence’s Cordley Elementary School, was selected for the award for her integration of history, culture and geography in her music lessons.
