7-foot bank robber sentenced for Franklin County holdup

The bank robber hid his face under a black ninja mask. But when you’re 7 feet tall and living in a small Kansas town, a mask only goes so far.

Caleb Jeffcoat, 26, of Quenemo, was sentenced Monday to 30 months in federal prison for robbing a bank in nearby Pomona, located in Franklin County, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom’s office.

Jeffcoat pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery, Grissom said. In his plea, he admitted that on March 19, 2014, he robbed the Goppert State Service Bank, 118 East Franklin St. in Pomona. During the robbery, he wore a black ninja mask belonging to a co-defendant’s son and carried a BB gun modified to make it look more like a real gun.

Investigators used surveillance photos and other information to identify Jeffcoat, who is 7 feet tall, Grissom said. He was arrested two days after the robbery.
