40 years ago: Sly and the Family Stone to appear at KU’s Hoch Auditorium

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 10, 1974:

In spite of personal problems, including a pending divorce, Sly and the Family Stone was still scheduled to appear in Hoch Auditorium at Kansas University this weekend, a spokesman for the group’s agency said today. “As far as we know, there will be no problems with the performance,” said Jay Venetiener of the William Morris Agency today. “If we thought there would be, we would have canceled the show, and we have not canceled it.” Sylvester “Sly” Stewart, the group’s leader, was being sued for divorce by his wife of five months, who had also asked for a restraining order to prevent Sly and his associates from taking their child. “I don’t think you should make a big mountain out of this because it isn’t one,” Venetiener said. “It’s all been straightened out.” Sly and the Family Stone were scheduled to play in St. Louis and Kansas City before and after the KU appearance, and tickets for the concert at Hoch were still available from the Student Union Activities office.
