40 years ago: LMH room rates to increase starting June 1

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 23, 1974:

Room rates at Lawrence Memorial Hospital were set to increase beginning June 1 following today’s unanimous approval of the rate changes by the LMH trustees. General care rooms were to increase 20.5 percent from $39 to $47 a day, acute care rooms from $78 to $100 a day, and nursery rooms from $21 to $30. The delivery room rate was to rise 28.6 percent from $70 to $90 per delivery. Laboratory charges were to increase an average of 15 percent overall. Increased costs and a major building program were cited as reasons for the change.

In Los Angeles, Patricia Hearst, who had been kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army on Feb. 4, now faced 19 felony charges in the wake of crimes committed by SLA members. “In our opinion, Miss Hearst was acting on her own free will,” an official said.
