Defensive duo dropped from KU football roster

A couple of notable names are no longer listed on the Kansas University football program’s official roster.

Linebacker Samson Faifili and cornerback Brandon Hollomon, who were listed on the Jayhawks’ roster throughout spring practices, have been taken off.

Although no official word or reason was given, a KU spokesperson said removing them from the roster was no accident.

Faifili, a transfer from American River College, missed most of the 2013 season because of an injury and did not participate during last month’s spring practices.

Faifili opened the 2013 season as a first-string linebacker ahead of Jake Love, but played in just two games. He had four tackles in the season-opening victory over South Dakota and four more stops in the Week 2 loss at Rice.

Hollomon, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound cornerback who transferred to Kansas from Pierce College (the same school that produced Marcus Jenkins-Moore and Marquel Combs), played in nine games last season as a backup cornerback and on special teams. He finished the season with nine tackles, six solo, and also returned one kickoff for 17 yards.

Preview party dates

As they did a year ago, KU coach Charlie Weis, athletic director Sheahon Zenger and special guests from the KU athletic department and alumni association will tour the state to drum up support for the coming football season.

The first event will take place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the 6th Avenue Ballroom in Topeka. Round 2 will take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan. Similar events will follow in Dodge City (May 20, Magouirk Conference Center) and Wichita (May 22, Larry Bud’s).

All of the events are open to the public, which can pick up 2014 football items and win autographed KU merchandise, tickets and other prizes.
