Lawrence-area students place at state 6A speech tournament

Free State High School’s speech squad placed seventh overall, and Lawrence High School placed ninth, in the 6A state speech and drama tournament held Saturday in Olathe.

Free State senior Hannah Moran finished third in oral interpretation of prose. In original oration, junior Sarah Lieberman placed fifth and sophomore Genevieve Prescher placed sixth.

From Lawrence High School, sophomore Stefan Petrovic brought home two medals, including third place in impromptu speaking and fourth place in foreign extemporaneous speaking.

Earlier, Petrovic qualified to the National Forensics League national tournament in foreign extemporaneous speaking.

Moran also qualified to the national event in congressional debate, and Prescher qualified in original oration.

The national tournament will be held June 15-20 in Overland Park.
