Kansas University women’s golfer Yupaporn Kawinpakorn was named to the All-Big 12 team, the conference announced Thursday.

Kawinpakorn, a sophomore from Samutprakan, Thailand, is the fourth Jayhawk in league history to earn the honor and the first since 2008. She finished the season No. 3 in Golfstat’s Big 12 rankings — the top 10 players earned all-conference honors — after tying for second place at last week’s Big 12 Championship.

“I am proud of her (Kawinpakorn) for being named to the All-Big 12 Team,” KU coach Erin O’Neil said. “She works hard every day and is a great leader for our team. She certainly is deserving of the honor.”

Kawinpakorn earned seven top-10 finishes this season and placed second at three of those tournaments. She is also on pace to break her own school record for lowest average strokes per round, 75.3, with her current mark of 74.4.

The Jayhawks begin play at their first-ever NCAA Regional Tournament on May 8 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
