LHS baseball rallies for victory

? Lawrence High’s baseball team overcame an 11-run deficit and defeated Putnam City North, 13-12, on Saturday.

Drew Green hit a one-out, two-run triple to tie the game at 12 in the bottom of the seventh. Alex Smith then singled with one out to score Green with the winning run.

Putnam City scored eight runs in the second inning and led 12-1 after three innings.

Michael Sinks helped get the Lions’ comeback started with a three-run home run. Sinks went 4-for-5 with four RBIs.

“It was pretty discouraging after an eight-run second,” LHS coach Brad Stoll said. “Our inability to throw strikes and play defense was brutal, to be honest with you. But we kept hitting the ball hard. Then we started making pitches and playing better defense, and the bats really started going.”

Brad Kincaid (1-0) pitched the final two innings for the victory.

The Lions will play Friday night at Topeka Seaman.
