MMA bouts on tap Saturday

Mixed martial arts is coming back to Lawrence.

The 12-bout “Carnage 2” — with MMA and Muay Thai fights, amateur and professional — will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Kansas National Guard Armory, 200 Iowa Street.

“We have fighters coming from as far as the East Coast, Pennsylvania. We have fighters coming from all over the country — Kentucky, Texas, Ohio,” PaperChase Promotions promoter Mike Jones said.

Lawrence’s Joel Harris is on the card. Harris won his only other previous MMA fight in September.

“There is definitely a little bit more emotion behind this fight,” Harris said of fighting in his hometown.

With Harris competing, Jones expects a better turnout than his last MMA promotion in town, on Nov. 16, 2013. “Carnage” featured five bouts, but Jones saw promise from the first event.

“It was a success because it was only five bouts, and so many people showed up,” Jones said. “Lawrence has been backing us since that fight.”

Gates will open at 6 p.m. Admission is $25.
