Fire safety scam targets medical offices

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical is warning local medical offices of a new scam claiming to sell advertisements.

Fire Medical received calls Friday from two local medical offices that had been contacted by a sales representative from a “Fire Safety Magnet” program. The representative claimed to be selling advertising on a fire safety magnet.

According to a news release, the scammer is trying to gain sales by saying, “Lawrence firefighters voted on your office to represent (a specific) category.” The news release also states that the websites being used in this scam are FireSafetyMagnets.com and firehousepromotionsinc.com.

Fire Medical does not endorse this program and considers it a scam. Anyone who is targeted by this scam is asked to report the call to the District Attorney’s Consumer Protection Division at 330-2849.
