LHS boys hoops falls to 5th in poll

Lawrence High’s boys basketball team fell to No. 5 in the final Class 6A poll of the season, released Monday by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association.

The Lions dropped one spot after losing to No. 9 Shawnee Mission East on Tuesday before beating Free State on Friday. They will play host to Gardner-Edgerton in the first round of sub-state at 7 p.m. Thursday. Olathe East (ranked No. 7) also is in the LHS sub-state bracket.

Free State’s boys basketball team will face Derby (ranked No. 10) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Derby to open play in sub-state.

Baldwin moved up a spot to No. 3 in Class 4A-Division I, while Mill Valley (No. 7 in Class 5A), Eudora (No. 3 in Class 4A-Division II) and Wellsville (No. 10 in Class 3A) all held steady from last week’s poll.

Santa Fe Trail’s girls basketball team stayed at No. 3 in Class 4A-Division II.
