KU softball wins walkoff, shutout

? Kansas University’s softball team took advantage of errors and errant pitches to pull out a 3-2 walk-off victory over Murray State on Saturday night at the Southern Illinois Coach B Classic.

Earlier Saturday, the Jayhawks (10-5) blanked SIU, 4-0.

Taylor McElhaney, who was hit by pitches twice during the Murray State game, scored the winning run with bases loaded after Ashley Newman sent a ball to the left side of the field. KU’s three runs came off four hits (no RBIs) and three MSU errors. Kelsey Kessler, who struck out two after KU starter Alicia Pille gave up the game-tying home run, picked up her second victory of the day. Kessler (6-3) allowed just two hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings against SIU.

KU will face Miami and Murray State in the tournament today.
