Today in Lawrence: Farmers’ market and the science of storytelling

The Lawrence Farmers' Market draws fans young and old with fresh food from local vendors.

Ah, summer!

Finally, a summer day we can be proud of! The high of 86 is warm without being blistering and the evening might bring a little rain and lightning, perfect for an evening on the porch or for sleeping. Enjoy it while you can, because while Wednesday and Thursday promise cooler temperatures, there are more storms in the forecast.

Get it fresh

Things are heating up, and the produce is really rolling in. Get what makes your stomach happy at the Lawrence Farmers’ Market. Local farmers and vendors have everything from produce to flowers and more. Be there from 4 to 6 p.m. at the parking lot at 824 New Hampshire St.

Science on tap

What if scientists could convey their work as compellingly as professional writers, journalists and moviemakers? Would the world be a different place? Science communicator and writer Brendan Lynch will talk about skills scientists (and others) can use to connect people to their work, no matter how esoteric. You might want to sample a brew while you listen at Science on Tap: Scientists as Storytellers, 7:30-9 p.m., Free State Brewing Co., 636 Massachusetts St.
