40 years ago: City commissioners continue discussion of sign ordinance

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 28, 1974:

Discussions of proposed amendments to the city sign ordinance were scheduled to continue at this week’s Lawrence City Commission meeting. Commissioner Barkley Clark had proposed a variety of sign ordinance changes several weeks earlier including phasing out of flashing signs and oversize nonconforming signs. Also on the agenda this week were reports on the Naismith Ditch greenbelt, Edgewood Homes street lights, and the proposed Kansas Power and Light Co. rate increase request to the Kansas Corporation Commission. On another matter, the resurfacing of Sixth Street from Wisconsin to Vermont streets, city manager Buford Watson said today the state highway commission was to give the city $3,000 to assist in the estimated $33,000 project.
