Eudora — Chad Stieben scored 21 points to lead Veritas Christian’s boys basketball team past Topeka Cair Paravel on Saturday.

“This was a huge win for our team tonight,” Veritas coach Blake Mudd said. “Cair Paravel is a program I have a lot of respect for. Our kids played very hard tonight. We won the game on the boards, outrebounding Cair Paravel, 39-27.”

Veritas (8-8) will play Tuesday at Topeka Heritage.

Eudora — Veritas Christian’s girls basketball team fell behind by 11 points in the first quarter and never recovered Saturday in a loss to Topeka Cair Paravel.

Tori Huslig scored 15 points, Alyssa Krestan scored 13, and Hannah Gloss added seven points for the Eagles.

Veritas trailed 14-3 after one quarter, then cut Cair Parvel’s lead to 29-22 at halftime.

“We had been looking forward to this game, and we didn’t start well,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said. “We dug a really big hole. We played hard and never quit. We just didn’t do what we needed to do to win. We never could make a big enough run to overtake them.”

Veritas (8-7) will play Tuesday at Topeka Heritage.
