Overland Park ? Alan Clothier took first place in the 182-pound weight class, and the Lawrence High wrestling team took sixth on Saturday at the 18-team Blue Valley Northwest Invitational.

Xavier Kenney placed third at 106, Garrett Girard third at 132 and Ryan Bellinger third at 170 for the Firebirds. FSHS scored 126 points on a day when heavyweight Alex Jones missed the meet for a recruiting trip.

“For the guys to pull it together and finish as high as they did and score as many points without our heavyweight … we figured we should be right in the mix if we get everyone qualified for state in the coming weeks,” LHS coach Pat Naughton said.

The Lions take on rival Free State in a dual on Wednesday night at LHS before traveling to the Olathe North tournament next Saturday.
