Benefit to help cancer survivors ‘catch a break’

The Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association will host its second annual Arctic Blast fundraiser on Feb. 1.

The event will benefit the Catch a Break program, which assists cancer survivors going through financial difficulties because of the disease. The money helps patients with things like utility bills, groceries, rent and gifts during the holidays.

The Arctic Blast fundraiser is from 6-10 p.m. at Abe & Jake’s Landing, 8 E. Sixth St. Guests are encouraged to wear ski lodge gear and “chill out for a cool cause.” Tickets are $80 per person.

Entertainment will include five tasting stations, music, strong woman Mama Lou, the Tricks of the Light fire jugglers, and Kansas University a cappella group Genuine Imitation.

Catch a Break was founded in 2007 by local cancer survivor Cindy Sargent. The Lawrence Memorial Association Endowment Association began administering the program three years later and has since helped more than 200 families.
