Veritas girls, boys win at Braymer tourney

Veritas Christian’s girls basketball team raced to a 21-point first-quarter lead and defeated Wentworth Military, 58-20, on Wednesday in the Braymer tournament.

Hannah Gloss led the Eagles with 15 points. Tori Huslig scored 12, Alyssa Krestan 10 and Macie Dressler and Caitlin Breuer six apiece for Veritas.

The Eagles took a 10-0 lead less than two minutes into the game and led 25-4 after one quarter and 36-11 at halftime.

Veritas (7-5) will play at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the Braymer tournament fifth-place game.

Veritas boys 66, Wentworth 25

Drake Napier scored 17 points, and Veritas Christian’s boys basketball team defeated Wentworth Military, 66-25, to reach the Braymer tournament semifinals.

Chad Stieben scored 12 points, Micah Edmondson had 11 points and Winston Wiebe 10 points for the Eagles.

“I thought as a team we played really good defense,” Veritas coach Blake Mudd said. “We took care of the ball and played really hard tonight.”

The Eagles (5-7) will play at 5:45 p.m. today against Tina-Avalon in the tournament semifinals.
