Lawrence Memorial Hospital endowment reports success

The Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s Endowment Association had a successful 2013, its director said this week.

About 2,500 donors gave a total of more than 5,000 gifts to the hospital’s philanthropy arm in 2013, chief development officer Kathy Clausing-Willis told the hospital’s board of trustees Wednesday.

Of the roughly $1.6 million raised last year, about $1.2 million was transferred back to the hospital. All told, the endowment at is roughly $8.6 million. Clausing-Willis said she expects it to surpass its 2020 goal of $10 million before then.

“Your community wants to support your community hospital,” she said. “I think the numbers are a reflection of that.”

Hospital CEO Gene Meyer said that with the landscape of health care changing, “the importance of philanthropy to hospitals is never going to be greater.”
