Veritas girls lose in opener of Braymer tournament

? The Veritas Christian girls basketball team opened the Braymer Invitational with a 54-47 loss to Ludlow, Mo., Southwest on Monday.

Veritas led, 39-32, after three quarters, but Southwest closed the game by outscoring Veritas, 22-8. Three Eagles — Alyssa Krestan, Macie Dressler and Tori Huslig — fouled out midway through the fourth quarter.

“Our bench played good (after the foul trouble), but that’s our scoring punch,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said of Huslig (game-high 17 points), Krestan (10) and Dressler (4). ” “We gave up the lead, they got on a little run, and we just couldn’t catch up.”

At 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Veritas (6-5) will play the loser of today’s game between Orrick (Mo.) vs. Wentworth Military.
