Veritas girls beat Sunrise, 50-47
Wichita ? Veritas Christian’s girls basketball team built a 20-point third-quarter lead and held on for a 50-47 victory over Wichita Sunrise on Saturday.
Tori Huslig led Veritas with 20 points.
“They are defending KCAA champions,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said, “so it’s a big win for us.”
Veritas led 40-24 entering the fourth quarter, but Sunrise came within two points late in the game.
“We held on. That’s the main thing,” Shelton said. “We’ve lost a couple games that had this kind of footprint. This was big for us. One, because we were able to hold on, and, two, because of the opponent. I couldn’t be more happy with how the girls played. Everyone made contributions for us to win this one. We hope that gives us some momentum.”
Veritas improved to 6-4 and will play Monday in a tournament in Braymer, Mo.
