• Teri Smith, director of Douglas County Emergency Management, has completed the Executive Leaders Program at the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security. The program is centered on enhancing interdisciplinary concepts that comprise homeland security.

• Marketing agency Callahan Creek announced it will partner with Hilary’s Eat Well for brand strategy support. “Callahan Creek will be a great partner for our brand as we work to articulate our past, present and future in a creative, clear and transparent way,” said Hilary Brown, CEO of Hilary’s Eat Well.

• Peoples Bank announced its expansion into Florida with the creation of its newest mortgage division, Integrity Home Loan. Established in 1871, Peoples Bank is operated and headquartered in Kansas. It is the 19th largest Mortgage Lender among depository institutions, according to a statement.

• The Kansas Volunteer Commission gave the United Way of Douglas County a $29,800 grant. The United Way is one of four organizations in Kansas to receive the award, according to a statement. The funds will allow the United Way to expand skill-based volunteering in health, education and self-sufficiency.

• Buckeye Insurance Group announced that Bolz Insurance, Inc., is the recipient of the Ambassador Agency award for 2013. The award is given annually to select independent insurance agencies representing Buckeye that receive acclaim for customer service and sales performance. Bolz has locations in Lyndon, Lawrence, Ottawa and Nortonville.
