Today in Lawrence: Getting hotter, candidate potluck, Busker Ball and Sharknado 2

Get up close and personal to the busker action at the Busker Ball! The evening starts with an exclusive stage show followed by an informal meet and greet where busker fans can get to know talented street performers from all over the world. See below for details.

Sidewalk hop

Were the soles of your shoes melting on the sidewalk yesterday? It may be time to get some new shoes, because the pavement isn’t getting any cooler. The high today is expected to be 98 degrees, and the low is forecast for 79 — so not even much relief from the heat at night. The mercury will keep rising through the weekend, with a high of 100 and sunny skies expected on Saturday.

Meet the candidates

League of Women Voters and Voter Education Coalition will have a Candidate Potluck from 5 to 8 p.m. at the East Shelter, Centennial Park, 2198 W. Ninth St. The goal is to give voters the chance to meet as many candidates as possible. The main dish will be provided, but donations of appetizers, vegetables and desserts are welcome. The event will feature a “speed dating” round with several candidates at different tables. All are welcome.
