Kansas Relays begins today

Kansas University’s track and field teams will open the 87th Kansas Relays today at newly constructed Rock Chalk Park.

The four-day Relays will be the first event hosted at the not-quite-completed, $39-million future home of the KU track, soccer and softball teams. The relays had been held at Memorial Stadium on KU’s campus since the inaugural meet in 1922.

Competition will begin at 10 a.m. today with college men’s and women’s decathlon and heptathlon events. Collegiate events will continue Thursday through Saturday, with the high school portion of the meet beginning Friday and concluding Saturday.

Admission for today’s and Thursday’s sessions is free, while the Friday and Saturday sessions will cost $5. Kansas University students will be admitted for free.
