Fatal accident in rural Douglas County

One person was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-vehicle accident near the unincorporated community of Globe, in southwest Douglas County.

The accident was reported around 2 a.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 56 between East 550 Road and East 700 Road.

A Douglas County Deputy was first to arrive on the scene and reported that one person had been thrown from the vehicle, which had struck a utility pole. Baldwin City Fire pronounced the person dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

Deputies continue to investigate the accident.
