KU to host events commemorating Brown V. Board

A symposium this weekend at Kansas University will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision that ruled racial segregation unconstitutional in public schools.

KU Libraries will host the opening of the exhibition “Lasting Impact: Brown v. the Board of Education” on the third floor of the Watson Library Gallery at 5 p.m. Friday. That will be followed by a 6 p.m. presentation on the continued school graduation gap for black students since the ruling.

On Saturday a symposium at KU will look at the legacy of Brown v. Board and its future implications. The program will be on the fifth floor of the Kansas Union from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Friday and Saturday’s events are both free and open to the public. Those who wish to attend should RSVP to Rachel Karwas at 864-8961 or rkarwas@ku.edu.
