Madison, Wis. ? Kansas University rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat host Wisconsin, 3-2, in the InnTowner Volleyball Invitational on Friday at UW Field House.

KU won, 22-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 17-15, to improve to 6-3. Wisconsin, ranked 25th nationally, fell to 6-1.

“We gave ourselves chances in the first two sets and breaks didn’t go our way,” KU coach Ray Bechard said. “Then they made a decision at the break that they were going to make their own breaks — that’s what they did. They came out, fought hard and controlled sets three and four. And that’s about as epic of a fifth set that you’ll see. Wisconsin was serving two times for the match, and we fought them off for a big, big road win.”

It was KU’s first 2-0 comeback since Sept. 20, 2008, against Iowa State.

Sophomore outside hitter Tiana Dockery had a career-high 21 kills, marking KU’s first 20-kill match of the season. Fifth-year senior middle blocker Caroline Jarmoc had 17 kills and led the floor with seven blocks.

Senior setter Erin McNorton tied a season-high with 58 assists, while senior libero Brianne Riley set a season high with her 28 digs. Defensive specialists Jaime Mathieu (16) and Cassie Wait (10) and Chelsea Albers (10) all dug double-digit attacks as KU both out-dug (76-72) and out-blocked (12.0-9.0) the Badgers.

Earlier Friday, the Jayhawks swept Milwaukee, 25-20, 25-18, 25-10.

Dockery had a then-season-high 10 kills for KU, which hit .257 while holding Milwaukee (3-4) to a mere .060 attacking percentage.

“It was a matter of us finally combining our defense with our offense,” Bechard said. “We were a little uneven in our first two sets, but we blocked well and really got a lot of positive touches off the block that we converted into points in the third set.”

Albers and Sara McClinton joined forces to help Dockery, as the trio accounted for 29 of KU’s 38 kills.

McNorton had 32 assists.

KU will face Bowling Green at 1 p.m. today.
