Park restrooms and shelters close for winter months

All water fountains, restrooms and outdoor shelters in city parks will close for the season starting Wednesday.

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department closes the water fountains and restrooms during the winter months to avoid water freezing in pipes. These facilities will reopen at an unspecified date in the spring.

In lieu of the outdoor shelters, indoor facilities are available for anyone looking to host receptions, showers or parties.

The parks and recreation department is also currently accepting reservations for outdoor shelters and gazebos, which may be rented for any date from April 15, 2014 to Oct. 30, 2014.

Reservations for indoor or outdoor facilities are accepted at any of the community recreation centers, including the Community Building, 115 West 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St., Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, and the Administrative Office in South Park.
