Tongie rolls over Turner

Tonganoxie 43, KC Turner 22

Tonganoxie — Tyler Ford threw for 158 yards, ran for 97 more and accounted for three touchdowns as Tonganoxie cruised to a high school homecoming football victory against Kansas City (Kan.) Turner on Friday at Beatty Field.

The Chieftains (5-1, 4-1 Kaw Valley League) amassed 479 yards of offense in the win, including 321 on the ground.

Tonganoxie jumped out to a 14-0 lead when Cole Holloway and Ford scored rushing touchdowns on the team’s first two drives. Ford threw a 16-yard strike to Maleak Gibson, and the Chieftains took a 21-6 lead into the break.

Holloway, who led all ball carriers with 144 yards, scored his second touchdown of the night on a six-yard run late in the third quarter. Jared Sommers added a one-yard run and Ford found Ben Johnson for a 50-yard score to make it 43-6 in the fourth quarter.

Ford was 13-of-19 and now has nine touchdown passes this season and two interceptions.

The Chieftains open Class 4A District 2 play next week at home against Perry-Lecompton

Baldwin 51, Louisburg 14

Baldwin City — Undefeated Baldwin rolled over Louisburg after building a 24-0 second-quarter lead on three rushing touchdowns.

In the third quarter, the Bulldogs (6-0, 4-0) marched 70 yards on the ground in three plays for a touchdown. Senior quarterback Chad Berg scored from 43 yards out to end the drive.

Baldwin plays next Friday at Ottawa in the first game of district play.

Perry — Brandon Eddy gained 185 yards on 14 carries and scored three touchdowns for the Kaws.

Eddy scored on runs of 51, 29 and 56 yards, and Quinten Sledd caught a 7-yard touchdown pas from Mitchell Bond.

The Kaws (3-3) will play Friday at Tonganoxie.
