Bishop Seabury students kick off annual food drive, hoping to collect 5,000 items

Bishop Seabury Academy has embarked on its annual food drive, with a goal of collecting at least 5,000 nonperishable food items to benefit local service agencies.

Margie Lawrence, media coordinator at the school, said some of the items being asked for this year include canned vegetables, boxed dinners, peanut butter and other nonperishables, as well as toilet paper, paper towels and blankets.

The two-week event will wrap up on Nov. 23, when the school’s high school students will volunteer at the Lawrence Community Shelter, the Ballard Center and other local organizations.

Later that night, students will brave the cold, wrap up in blankets and sleep outside the school at 4120 Clinton Parkway.

Lawrence said the drive would benefit the Trinity Food Pantry, Lawrence Community Shelter, Ballard Center, Catholic Charities, Family Promise, Penn House and The Salvation Army.

Donations can be made at the school during office hours, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Items can also be dropped off in front of the school at any time the night of Nov. 23. Students will be available to collect items starting at 6:30 that evening.
