Forum on Title IX to be held at Johnny’s Tavern

Johnny’s Tavern in North Lawrence will be the site of a public forum on Title IX, the federal law that bans gender discrimination in education and athletics, today at 7 p.m.

The free event will include panelists such as National High School Activities Association Hall of Fame member Joan Wells, 1989 World Pentathlon Champion Lori Norwood, professional tennis player Kirsty Elliott, former Kansas Koyote placekicker Abby Vestal, health journalist Rhonda LeValdo, medical expert Amy Hecker and fitness trainer Becky Bridson.

This free event is part of the “About Lawrence…” series of quarterly events sponsored by Lawrence Magazine and Lawrence Public Library. According to a press release, the forum was created out of a Lawrence Magazine article on Vestal, who became the first full-time female player in the American Professional Football League.
