5K to benefit agency that works with special-needs children

A 5K run is being held in Lawrence this weekend to remember a local boy who died last year and benefit a local agency that served him.

The 5K and Family Fun Run is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at 1470 N. 1000 Road, adjacent to First Nazarene Church. The event is being held in memory of Thomas John Giffin, who died last December at 21 months of age after being found unresponsive in his bed by his father, Robby. The cause of his death is still unknown.

Proceeds from the run will be donated to tiny-K Early Intervention, a Lawrence agency that supports families of children with developmental disabilities and that worked with Giffin prior to his death.

The 5K run is $20 ($25 on race day) and a one-mile run/walk is $15 ($20 on race day). The tiny-K kids run is free. To register, visit redteamracing.com/races/tj5k. Packets can be picked up Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at tiny-K Early Intervention, 2619 W. Sixth St., Suite B.
