Tornado watch cancelled early; hazardous weather outlook remains

The National Weather Service cancelled the tornado watch early, shortly before its original ending time, for Lawrence.

However, a hazardous weather outlook remains for Douglas County and surrounding areas.

The forecast includes scattered thunderstorms through midnight and severe weather is no longer expected. However gusty winds and small hail may still occur. There’s another chance for severe weather with large hail and strong winds possible Monday afternoon and evening.

Earlier in the afternoon, the weather service reported that a large and extremely dangerous tornado had been spotted on the southwest side of Wichita, moving northeast at 30 mph.

The weather forecast for the Lawrence area calls for a 60 chance of precipitation. Monday may see showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m., then a chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

Temperatures are expected to peak at about 85 degrees this afternoon, with a low tonight of 63, according to the weather service.
