40 years ago: Pinckney parents discuss ‘shared principal’ proposal

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 15, 1973:

  • At a recent meeting, the Pinckney School PTA had voted unanimously to start an investigation of the school’s needs regarding a principal. The organization had met in a special session to discuss reactions to a proposed change from Pinckney having a full-time principal to a half-time principal shared with Riverside School beginning next year. Because of declining enrollment, Pinckney parents had recently been told that the school could no longer afford a full-time principal.
  • The Kansas University Jayhawk mascot had been chosen to throw out the first ball at Royals Stadium on June 18. The Monday night game when the Royals were scheduled to meet the Oakland A’s was dubbed as “Kansas Jayhawk Night.” A Jayhawk was to be displayed on the massive scoreboard in the new ballpark, the national anthem was to be played by the KU marching band, and a post-game reception for KU folks was planned in the banquet room.
