How to Help: Volunteer Strengths Coach can aid in case management

Ballard Community Services is a nonprofit organization that provides affordable high quality early education and essential basic life assistance to families and individuals in need. The Penn House, a division of Ballard Community Services, has a volunteer opportunity for a Strengths Coach. This is an opportunity to learn basic case management skills required to handle a caseload of five to seven clients. This opportunity requires a commitment of seven to 15 hours of time per week. • The Douglas County Medical Reserve Corps is a group of volunteers with relevant health-related experience who can assist our community during a public health emergency. MRC volunteers also work together to provide health education initiatives in Douglas County. Volunteer positions are currently available. • Douglas County Child Development Association is a nonprofit membership and service organization committed to developing programs to support early childhood care and education in Douglas County. • Van Go Inc. is an arts-based social service agency that provides year-round after-school and summer job-training programs to high-needs and under-served youths ages 14-21. Van Go is looking for volunteers for its summer JAMS (Jobs in the Arts Make Sense) session, running June 3 through July 25. JAMS participants will be designing and painting a bench for a client’s home or business. Volunteers with painting skills are needed to assist, mentor and supervise the youths participating in JAMS. • Ten Thousand Villages-Lawrence is a nonprofit, volunteer-operated, fair trade retailer of artisan products from about 40 developing countries around the world. Ten Thousand Villages creates opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to market through long-term, fair trading relationships. Volunteers are needed to work as sales associates and in the stockroom. A minimum time commitment of working two four-hour shifts per month is required. • StopGap Inc. provides support to children aging out of foster care in Douglas County. StopGap Inc. will be hosting a fundraising 5K race on Sunday, starting 8 a.m. at Johnny’s Tavern, 401 N. • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County provides one-to-one relationships for children facing adversity. BBBS is looking for a “Big” for 12-year old Madi. Madi is mature for her age, outgoing, very motivated and has strong leadership potential. She enjoys shopping, running, cooking and having her nails done. Madi is excited about the possibility of hanging out with a “Big” who can serve as a positive role model, is outspoken and academically driven, and can encourage Madi to be a strong woman.
