Two first-half goals from junior forward Ali Kimura helped Kansas University’s women’s soccer team emerge with a 3-1 victory over Real Meda Italia on Friday night in Como, Italy. The win gave the Jayhawks a 4-0 record for their European Tour and moves them to 4-1 in their spring exhibition season.

“I thought we came out a little flat today,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “It was nice that we won, but I was a little concerned with our drop from the level we played at on Wednesday. The Europe trip itself has been great, though. We got to play some different competition, and I think that will really pay off down the road.”

Earlier this week the Jayhawks defeated SpVgg Kaufbeuren in Germany, 8-1, on Monday; FC Wacker Innsbruck, 1-0, on Tuesday in Austria; and the U23 Swiss National Team, 1-0, Wednesday in Zurich, Switzerland.

Friday, Kimura came off the bench in the 20th minute and made her presence known almost immediately. The walk-on from Overland Park found herself on a breakaway in the 24th minute with only the Italian keeper to beat. She put in a right-footed strike that glanced off the right post and in to give KU a 1-0 lead.
