How to Help: Green thumbs needed for gardening project

Volunteers who enjoy being outside, digging in the garden and supporting Lawrence’s local food movement are needed for the upcoming “Growing Food, Growing Health” volunteer workdays. Upcoming workdays are this Saturday and March 30, both from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the West Middle School Garden, 2700 Harvard Road. • The Willow Domestic Violence Center is seeking volunteers for a wide variety of roles, such as providing direct service to residents at the shelter, supporting art programs and children’s activities, administrative assistance, meeting with survivors in the community and answering the crisis line. • The Kansas Half Marathon is looking for 300 volunteers (individuals or groups) to help with the event on Sunday, April 21. Volunteers are needed to assist with packet distribution the day before and day of the race, as aid station workers and course monitors during the race, and to help with food and awards. • Tino is a seventh-grader who is quiet but loves talking with people and is in need of some quality time with a male role model. He loves playing video games and sports and doing his homework.
