Roads are open again after being closed Saturday morning due to a natural gas leak.

Iowa Street between University Drive and 19th Street was closed to traffic just after 9 a.m. after a construction crew cut into a 4-inch natural gas line near Bob Billings Parkway and Iowa, said Joe Hoelscher, Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical division chief.

Hoelscher said Black Hills Energy workers detected the valve to shut off the gas, and are now fixing the leak. As a safety precaution, fire crews set up a 100-yard perimeter around the leak and monitored the area to make sure it was not at explosive levels, Hoelscher said.
