Saturday morning’s rain was welcomed by farmers and others needing moisture, but it meant disappointment for cyclists hoping to join the third annual Community Bike Ride.

The ride was canceled and will not be rescheduled.

“We did not expect rain in late July,” said Stephen Lane, chairman of the bike ride. “This was a one-time shot.”

Next year, Lane said, he would arrange a makeup day to prepare for bad weather.

The Community Bike Ride is hosted by the Lawrence Central Rotary Club to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage families to cycle together. Participants were to choose among three routes along the South Lawrence Trafficway bike path.
