Two men critically injured in Franklin County head-on collision

Two men were severely injured in a head-on accident Thursday afternoon on Kansas Highway 68 two miles east of Pomona in Franklin County.

Daniel Sloop, 24, of Vassar, was taken by LifeStar helicopter ambulance to Overland Park Regional Medical Center after the 2006 Toyota he was driving was struck head-on in the 800 block of K-68, west of Ottawa, about 3 p.m. Thursday, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. The other driver, Wayne Russell, 26, of Pomona, was taken by ambulance to the same hospital.

Both men remained in critical condition Friday afternoon in Overland Park Regional’s intensive care unit.

The accident happened when Russell, traveling westbound in a 2000 Ford Taurus, crossed the center line and collided with Sloop’s Toyota, which was traveling eastbound. Both vehicles were totaled in the wreck.
