From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 21, 1973:

• Thirty individuals had joined the Carnegie Association for Lawrence Library (CALL) at the organization’s first general meeting this week. Committees had been set up to handle the group’s purposes — to aid, promote, develop, and advance the operation of the Lawrence Public Library. The first major fund-raising project for the group would be a used book fair this spring. Any interested person was invited to join CALL with a one-dollar donation.
• An Ottawa man was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after an industrial accident yesterday at Elm’s Sinclair Station, 521 W. 23rd. The man had been in a group attempting to load a hydraulic cylinder into a truck when the cylinder had slipped and pushed him against a window, which had broken, police said. The man had suffered head and facial cuts and bruised ribs.
• Construction on Kansas University’s Wescoe Hall was about 72 percent complete, according to Keith Lawton, director of facilities planning and operations. Contractors had enclosed the east wing of the building and work on the interior was progressing rapidly while workers were pouring the asphalt roof on the west wing. The $7.6 million building was expected to be completed by this fall.
