From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 23, 1973:

• The “Welcome to Eudora” sign on the west side of that city had undergone a slight revision this week with the addition of 241 people to the population figure. The sign, placed and maintained by the Lions Club, had been repainted and repaired by club members and now showed the city’s population as 2,393. That figure was the total for 1972 and was, according to City Clerk Arlene Lawson, already behind the times.
• A meeting was to be scheduled soon for public comment on the recent corridor study area for the eastern U.S. 59 bypass around Lawrence. The plan had been presented by the Kansas Highway Department to the Douglas County Commission, Lawrence City Commission, and Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission at a meeting this week.
• The Kansas House today gave tentative approval to a bill that would require Kansas drivers to have a vision test and pass a written open-book exam. The bill was up for a final vote in a few days.
