From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 8, 1988:

• Longtime Lawrence physician Dr. Ralph Reed was officially named today the U.S. deputy assistant secretary for health. Reed was to take a leave of absence from Reed Medical Group and move to Washington, D.C., where he would be serving as assistant to Dr. Robert E. Windom, assistant secretary for health.
• Lawrence-based Hall-Kimbrell was expected to announce plans shortly for a third building in the Oread West research park. Construction was scheduled to begin this spring, according to Craig Templeton, public relations director for the company.
• Teachers and business people were going to learn about each other’s daily routine when they participated in the upcoming Teacher/Business Exchange Day. The event, sponsored annually by the Education Committee of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, involved people from various local businesses spending the morning in classrooms, while in the afternoon, teachers would visit business settings. At 4 p.m., the participants were to meet at the Chamber offices for a wine and cheese reception and a chance to discuss their experiences of the day.
