Library to bid farewell to old building

The Lawrence Public Library Foundation will bid the old library building, 707 Vermont St., farewell, on Sunday, Feb. 10, before it undergoes a $19 million expansion project.

Doors will open at 2 p.m. for the public to walk through the empty building as well as sign their names to a wall. Mayor Bob Schumm and City Commissioner Aron Cromwell will be on hand to make remarks at 2:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

The Lawrence Public Library is temporarily occupying the old Borders bookstore at Seventh and New Hampshire streets until the expansion project is completed in April of 2014.
