Chances for the new Lotto America game, the first online lottery for Kansas, were selling slowly, not just in Lawrence but across the state. Demand for the game, which had a jackpot of at least $2 million, was slow to nonexistent during its first several hours. “Nobody wants to play and we’ve offered,” said Mary Draper, manager of the EZ Shop at 1900 Haskell. “They just want something they can win now, They don’t want to wait until Saturday.” Chances for Lotto America were being sold in Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Oregon, Rhode Island, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Barbara Frick, the Kansas Lottery Commission’s acting public information officer, was optimistic about the game, saying that sales were “just cranking up.”
